On Sunday 28th April, 18 students and 6 members of staff from Rochester Grammar School volunteered to be part of the baggage reclaim on The Mall for the Virgin Money London Marathon. After a chilly start, and a lot of waiting around, the girls organised nearly 2,000 bags to be ready for collection. Completing this in just over an hour made it their quickest time yet! At around 2.30pm, the runners began flooding the lorry and the girls calmly and professionally spotted the runners from afar and retrieved the bag before passing it to the exhausted runner with a smile and congratulations. The runners were grateful and thankful to get their bags back in one piece, and pre-emptively, without stopping the runners and causing any unnecessary cramp! The girls worked tirelessly through the long 13 hour day before returning to RGS at 8.15pm. All involved worked as a team and co-ordinated the effort with tremendous success.
