Antarctica Day Flag Competition

In Term 2 students were asked, as part of Antarctica Day, to create a flag which represents the region.

There were a number of really good flags submitted but one was chosen as it really clearly met the brief.

The winning flag by Saniya Nair was taken to Antarctica by a group of research scientists to be flown.

The Flag was held up next to A68A the largest remaining part of the iceberg that broke away from the Larsen C ice shelf in 2017. The less sunny picture was taken in front of iceberg A-68A, the largest remaining part of iceberg A-68, which broke off Larsen C Ice Shelf in 2017.

In the photo is physical oceanographer Povl Abrahamsen.  The sunnier picture was taken in front of some of the smaller parts that have broken off the iceberg, near A-68P, the most recently named fragment (which is around 100 square km).
